About Me

My name is Kim Dobrzensky, or Mrs. D, and I have been teaching for 8 years.  In 2005 I received my CA Teaching Credential at Cal State East Bay.  I started out as a long term substitute teacher in Walnut Creek, CA, when my master teacher went on maternity leave.  At the end of that year, I applied for a position at Carmen Dragon Elementary School in Antioch, CA, and got it!  I started my career as a 4th grade teacher, and six short weeks into the year, our district collapsed classes, and I was given a 4/5 combination class.  It was really tough at first, but I persevered, and loved every moment!  It taught me a LOT about time and class management, and really pushed me to be my best all the time.  The following year I moved up to teach fifth grade.  I taught fifth grade for two more years, before moving back down to fourth.

In my fifth year teaching, our district did a bunch of lay offs and I lost my position as an elementary classroom teacher.  However, my amazing principal moved schools that same year, and called me up to her middle school to help be a part of a team to create an Intervention Program for sixth grade.  It was really nice to be a part of something so creative and new.

The following year, I decided to move to a lower performing school in my district, as I am a big believer in making a difference!  I was also ready to get back into a classroom.  I have been at Marsh Elementary School now for 3 years. I have taught fifth grade, and I am currently teaching fourth.  The first year I was at this school, we brought our test scores up by 44 points!  AMAZING!!!  I love being a teacher and making a difference!

When I am not teaching, I am a mom and wife!  My daughter will be starting her first year in Kindergarten and my husband is an operations coordinator for a tugboat company.  We enjoy camping, gardening, and hanging out with our friends and family.  I love to read, when I find the time, and I also enjoy shopping.  We love the community we live in and we are thrilled for our little one to start her adventures in school!!!!
